Ropes must be replaced when diameter wear exceeds 7 percent, or when visible broken wires within one lay length (about six times the rope diameter) reach 10 percent of total wires. Severe rust, kinking, crushing, or heat damage also demand immediate replacement. Regular inspections, including visual checks, diameter measurements, and non-destructive testing, are essential for maintaining safe operation.
